ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  2. Assists with loading special needs students in wheelchairs onto the wheelchair lift.
  3. Secures students on the bus with seat restraints or wheelchair restraints.
  4. Monitors students at all times to ensure that students remain appropriately restrained and seated.
  5. Expeditiously communicate any concerns to the Driver, Supervisor and/or school administration as appropriate.
  6. Under the guidance of the School Bus driver, assists in monitoring and maintaining appropriate student behavior in order to ensure that special needs students are transported safely and securely between residences and schools and / or between schools and approved field trips.
  7. Assist driver with directions, cleaning of bus, and ensuring that proper supplies are on bus.
  8. Assist with other regular education bus routes as requested.
  9. Due to the nature of this position, and access to confidential student information, it is absolutely mandatory that this position safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of the information stored and discussed in the Transportation Department.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School Diploma.
  2. Must be Certified in CPR and First Aid (training is available).
  3. Experience working with children one on one and in small groups. Experience with special needs students preferred. Ability to relate to students, parents, and teachers in a positive manner. Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  4. Able to lift and/or move students using wheelchair lift, tie downs and student restraints.
  5. Must be familiar with and responsible for the enforcement of all Arizona restraint laws, accident procedures and bus evacuation plans.
  6. Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.
  7. Valid IVP Fingerprint Card.

  1. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions with environmental noise.
  2. Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
  3. Moving about on foot within and around a school bus.
  4. Often raising objects from a lower to higher position, higher to lower position, or horizontally weighing up to 35 pounds.
  5. Occasionally required to drag up to 125 pounds.
  6. Frequently required to position body to perform duties by bending body downward and forward at the waist often requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles, bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
  7. Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or towards the force.
  8. Frequently ascending and descending bus stairs using feet and legs or hands and arms.
  9. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, crouching on narrow, moving, or slippery surfaces.
  10. Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands.
  11. Frequently required to position body by bending body downward and forward by waist.
  12. Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities including preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
  13. Exposure to the following environmental conditions including moving mechanical parts, noise, fumes, and electric shock.
  14. Clarity of vision at various ranges up to 20 feet including observing an area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT

Full-Time or Part-Time Position – 10 Month Classified Hourly

 

SALARY CLASSIFICATION

Appropriate salary placement on the ­­­­­­­­­Classified Hourly Salary Schedule (Grade 103)

 

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Site Administrator according to district policy.
