ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  2. Assists Transportation Supervisor by coordinating the transportation of students according to schedule.
  3. Maintains log of scheduled runs, numbers of vehicles and names of drivers.
  4. Receives telephone or radio reports of accidents, delays, equipment breakdowns and other operating difficulties.
  5. Dispatches extra vehicles and/or staff to scene of accident or breakdown to restore service.
  6. Accepts and records all calls regarding student transportation issues and emergencies.
  7. Makes reports of all buses involved in accidents.
  8. Responsible for calling in substitute bus drivers when regular drivers are absent .
  9. May operate school bus to transport students during normal pick-up and delivery times, and extracurricular activities, such as special evening activities, sports events, graduations, etc.
  10. Periodically observes vehicles along bus route to ensure that service is provided according to schedule.
  11. Due to the potential for access to confidential information, it is absolutely mandatory that this position safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of the information stored and discussed in the Transportation department.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Two years experience in bus route development and scheduling.
  2. Knowledge and experience in using bus dispatch routing systems software.
  3. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook, required.
  4. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a school bus driver certification and Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with “P” and “S” endorsement is required.
  5. Ability to pass DPS required School Bus Driver Physical Performance test.
  6. Must be in good physical condition and willing to submit to a physical examination and pre-screening drug test.
  7. Possession of, or ability to obtain, CPR and First Aid Certification.
  8. Clean driving record for the past five years with good work record and attendance.
  9. Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.
  10. Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:

  1. Continuously operates school bus using hand and foot controls.
  2. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions with environmental noise.
  3. Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
  4. Moving about on foot within and around a school bus.
  5. Often raising objects from a lower to higher position, higher to lower position, or horizontally weighing up to 35 pounds.
  6. Occasionally required to drag up to 125 pounds.
  7. Frequently required to position body to perform duties by bending body downward and forward at the waist often requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles, bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
  8. Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or towards the force.
  9. Frequently ascending and descending bus stairs using feet and legs or hands and arms.
  10. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching on narrow, moving, or slippery surfaces.
  11. Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands.
  12. Frequently required to position body by bending body downward and forward by waist.
  13. Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities including preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
  14. Exposure to the following environmental conditions including moving mechanical parts, noise, fumes, and electric shock.
  15. Clarity of vision at various ranges up to 20 feet including observing an area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full-Time Position - 12 months, Monday - Friday, 8 hours a day.

 

SALARY CLASSIFICATION:  Appropriate salary placement on the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated by Site Administrator and according to District Policy.
