ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  2. Ensures students are transported safely and securely between residences and schools and / or between schools and approved field trips.
  3. Performs pre-trip inspection of bus to ensure bus meets all State and Federal guidelines for safe operation, including restraints if applicable.
  4. Completes any documentation required – pre-trip inspections, mileage logs, student counts, special needs students, disciplinary forms (if applicable), and field trip sheets.
  5. Checks interior of bus after students are dropped off for students or any items left by students.
  6. Completes requests for repair of any mechanical issues.
  7. Cleans (interior and exterior) and fuels bus.
  8. Due to the nature of this position, and access to confidential student information, it is absolutely mandatory that this position safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of the information stored and discussed in the Transportation Department.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a school bus driver certification and Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with “P” and “S” endorsement is required.
  2. Ability to pass DPS required School Bus Driver Physical Performance test.
  3. Must be in good physical condition and willing to submit to a physical examination and pre-screening drug test.
  4. Training available for qualified applicants.
  5. CPR & First Aid Certification or ability to obtain.
  6. Clean driving record for the past five years with good work record and attendance.
  7. Must be able to drive and be aware of students. Must be understanding of special needs students. Must enjoy children. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Must have problem solving skills and ability to follow directions.
  8. Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.
  9. Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearnce Card required.

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:

  1. Continuously operates school bus using hand and foot controls.
  2. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions with environmental noise.
  3. Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
  4. Moving about on foot within and around a school bus.
  5. Often raising objects from a lower to higher position, higher to lower position, or horizontally weighing up to 35 pounds.
  6. Occasionally required to drag up to 125 pounds.
  7. Frequently required to position body to perform duties by bending body downward and forward at the waist often requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles, bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
  8. Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or towards the force.
  9. Frequently ascending and descending bus stairs using feet and legs or hands and arms.
  10. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, crouching on narrow, moving, or slippery surfaces.
  11. Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands.
  12. Frequently required to position body by bending body downward and forward by waist.
  13. Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities including preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
  14. Exposure to the following environmental conditions including moving mechanical parts, noise, fumes, and electric shock.
  15. Clarity of vision at various ranges up to 20 feet including observing an area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

Full-Time Position – 10 Month Classified Hourly

Appropriate salary placement on the ­­­­­­­­­Classified Hourly Salary Schedule

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Site Administrator and the Business Manager according to district policy.
