ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
- Assists classroom teacher by working with a student one-on-one or in small groups to reinforce classroom instruction. May provide tutoring to students.
- Monitors and supervises student behavior in classroom, during lunch, recess, and while moving around campus. Redirects student to stay on task.
- Works with special needs students in the setting assigned – general education classroom, resource classroom, self-contained classroom.
- Removes student from classroom if student needs a break and provides other activities to redirect student behavior.
- If circumstances require it, restrain student to prevent injury to self or others.
- Be able to change diapers, tube feed students, monitor checking of blood sugar, etc.
- Due to the potential for access to confidential student information, it is absolutely mandatory that this position safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of the information stored and discussed in the school.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- High school Diploma.
- Current CPR and First Aide cards are required. (No online classes)
- Capable of working with children one-on-one and in groups.
- Displays the ability to work with a variety of students with disabilities including: emotional disabilities, autistic, mildly mentally disabled and non-verbal students.
- Ability to relate to students, parents and teachers in a positive manner. Ability to build relationship of trust with students.
- Skills and ability to perform the functions of the job to include: instruction, computer, basic academic matters, problem solving and managing work assignments.
- Valid IVP Fingerprint Card.
- Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:
- Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
- Frequent interaction with students by bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles, bending legs at knee to come to rest on knees, or sitting on the floor requiring to resume an upright position.
- Moving about on foot and remaining on one’s feet in an upright position while supervising student(s).
- Raising or lowering an object from one level ranging from 25-50 lbs.
- Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or towards the force.
- Ascending and descending small ladder with agility.
- Required to have visual acuity to perform activities with student(s).
This is a 10 month position - Full-Time Monday - Friday
