ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  • Instruct, within close proximity to the teacher, individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
  • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods and field trips
  • Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about a student
  • Implement, under direction, behavioral plans developed by a team consisting of parent and school personnel for the purpose of assisting students in modifying behaviors that are in conflict with a positive academic and social environment.
  • Works with special needs students across all instructional settings, including the special education classrooms, general education classrooms, recess and lunch
  • Removes student from classroom if student needs a break and provides other activities to redirect student behavior.
  • If circumstances may be required to, restrain student to prevent injury to self or others utilizing CPI strategies, training provided. 
  • Assist students requiring support in addressing personal care/activities of daily living that may include feeding which?may include, toileting which may include diapering, , positioning/transferring, and safety monitoring, all with appropriate training. These are due to the variety of needs our students may present with for the purpose of allowing students to function in a school environment.
  • Assist students with various physical, emotional and educational needs adhering to guidelines of student I.E.P with appropriate documentation for activities of daily living for reimbursement of services for Medicaid in the Public Schools.
  • Participate in meetings and in service training as required for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving knowledge and skills beneficial to assisting in the classroom
  • Due to the potential for access to confidential student information, it is absolutely mandatory that this position safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of the information stored and discussed in the school, even after no longer employed
  • Perform all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed by supervisors, including related duties as assigned. 

 QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • High school Diploma.
  • Current CPR and First Aide cards are required. (No online classes)
  • Capable of working with children one-on-one and in groups.
  • Displays the ability to work with a variety of students with disabilities including: emotional disabilities, autistic, mildly mentally disabled and non-verbal students.
  • Ability to relate to students and teachers in a positive manner. Ability to build relationship of trust with students.
  • Skills and ability to perform the functions of the job to include: instruction, computer, basic academic matters, problem solving and managing work assignments.
  • Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. 
  • Maintain CPI certification (training available upon hire) 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:

  • Frequent communication with students and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
  • Frequent interaction with students by bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles, bending legs at knee to come to rest on knees, or sitting on the floor requiring to resume an upright position.
  • Moving about on foot and remaining on one’s feet in an upright position while supervising student(s).
  • Raising or lowering an object from one level ranging from 25-50 lbs.
  • Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or towards the force.
  • Ascending and descending small ladder with agility.
  • Required to have visual acuity to perform activities with student(s).

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full-Time Position - 10 months Monday - Friday - 35 hours a week

 

SALARY CLASSIFICATION:  Appropriate salary placement on the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated by Site Administrator and according to District Policy.

 

Min & Max Starting Salary: $18.05 - DOE
