ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  2. Services all district vehicles as assigned performs minor repair and miscellaneous maintenance.
  3. Performs minor engine tune-ups, oil changes, lubrications and maintains tires on all vehicles.
  4. Assists automotive mechanics in the repair and maintenance of all district vehicles.
  5. May transport equipment supplies and materials to various locations, including picking up parts from local dealers and delivers components to the district automotive shop.
  6. Delivers vehicles to school campuses and administrative offices as necessary.
  7. Delivers buses to drivers when needed in breakdown situations.
  8. May be assigned to repair and maintain other district equipment as needed.
  9. Using automotive technical manuals troubleshoots problem areas and applies appropriate knowledge and skills to repair minor problems and/or refers situation to Shop Foreman. Participates in on-the-job training in most aspects of the districts repair and preventative and emergency maintenance skills and techniques.
  10. Operates job associated hand or motorized equipment in association with work assignment.
  11. Due to the potential for access to confidential student information, it is absolutely mandatory that this position safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of the information stored and discussed in the Transportation department.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
  • Possession of a current CDL Class "B" Driver License with a "P" (passenger) and "S" (school bus) endorsement or ability to obtain this license is required.
  • Ability to pass the Department of Public Safety (DPS) required School Bus Driver Physical Performance Test.
  • Must be in good physical condition and willing to submit to a physical examination and pre-screening drug test.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
  • 3 – 5 years of prior mechanical experience with diesel, gas engines, and automotive electrical systems preferred. Knowledge of school bus regulations, air brakes, and DOT standards preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of testing equipment and technical manuals.
  • Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with students and staff.
  • Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:

  1. Frequent communication with staff including the exchange of accurate information.
  2. Moving about on foot with minimal rest.
  3. Occasionally remain in a seated position or remain on one’s feet in an upright position at a location without moving about.
  4. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions with environmental noise.
  5. Raising or lowering objects from one level to another from 25 – 75 lbs.
  6. Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or towards the force.
  7. Frequently required to position body to perform maintenance duties by bending body downward and forward at the waist often requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles, bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
  8. Occasionally ascending or descending ladders and stairs using feet and legs or hands and arms.
  9. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  10. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching on narrow slippery surfaces.
  11. Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands.
  12. Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities related to repairs and maintenance of vehicles.
  13. Clarity of vision at various ranges up to 20 feet including observing an area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
  14. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.
  15. Exposure to the following environmental conditions including weather, moving mechanical parts, electric shock, vibration, extreme heat, noise, exhaust fumes, and toxic chemicals.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full-Time Position - 12 months

 

SALARY CLASSIFICATION:  Appropriate salary placement on the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated by Site Administrator and according to District Policy.
