ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Systems Engineer is the senior technical leader at Higley Unified School District, responsible for the advanced design, implementation, and proactive maintenance of the district’s IT infrastructure. This pivotal role encompasses extensive network management, advanced system administration, and comprehensive cybersecurity oversight to ensure a robust, secure, and efficient operation of all digital systems.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Leadership and Strategy:

· Serve as the technical lead on all major systems and network initiatives, including integration of new technologies into existing infrastructure.

 

· Provide strategic oversight for the design and implementation of new IT solutions to enhance educational and administrative operations.

 

· Lead, mentor, and provide project direction to network and systems administrators.

 

System and Network Management:

 

· Oversee the maintenance and configuration of networking hardware and software, focusing on Cisco infrastructure and wireless solutions.

 

· Ensure high availability and reliability of all district server environments and network resources, including Internet Equipment/ISP and Data Center Network Equipment.

 

· Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, telephones, software applications, and peripherals.

 

Cybersecurity Oversight:

 

· Develop and enforce security policies and procedures to safeguard the district’s IT infrastructure. Utilizing current cyber monitoring tools.

 

· Monitor network and systems for security breaches, conduct security assessments, and lead response to security incidents.

 

· Implement and oversee technology controls and compliance measures, such as firewalls, antivirus systems, and intrusion

detection/prevention systems.

 

Project Management and Collaboration:

 

· Coordinate with other departments to facilitate complex projects and ensure consistency with system architecture and business objectives.

 

· Lead initiatives for tech innovation and efficiency improvements within the district.

 

Professional Development and Training:

 

· Keep abreast of the latest technology trends and developments in system engineering, network engineering, and cybersecurity.

 

· Organize and deliver training sessions to IT staff on system and network security measures and best practices.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education:

 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

 

Equivalent experience will be considered for candidates who do not possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

 

Certifications: (Preferred)

 

· Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

· Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert

· Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert

· CompTIA Security+

 

Required Skills:

 

· Expert knowledge of network and systems design, configuration, and management.

· Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.

· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.

· Effective communication skills, capable of leading teams and projects, and making complex technical issues understandable to non-technical stakeholders.

 

Required: 

 

· Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.

· Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

 

Experience:

 

At least 5 years of experience in network administration, systems engineering, or a related field, with proven experience running enterprise systems, and networks.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop or kneel.

 

Primarily an indoor working environment in multiple locations. Moderate physical effort. May require stooping, bending, kneeling, periodic handling of objects up to 50 pounds, crawling and walking. Requires dexterity to wire and configure computer, media systems and peripherals.
